Graphic Design Basics

How Do You Do It?  Well, of course, you need a graphic designing software! Every computer comes with the free program called “Paint,” which can be found on the Start Button > All Programs > Accessories, then the Paint button. To use it, choose a tool on the left toolbox. You can select colors and brush sizes and shapes. This is a decent software with pixelly graphics. The best graphic design program is probably Adobe Photoshop, that’s what I use. There are all different versions of Photoshop. Search them online to find out more. Of course, there are many great-quality graphic designing softwares out there that are free such as Gimp and Paint.NET – you can choose from thousands.

How Do You Get Good Results?  Everyone says this, but it’s true: practice. Draw or design every day and you’ll eventually be a professional! Also, when you’re saving a graphic, always save it as .PNG! All of the other extensions, such as .JPG and .GIF usually change the quality and color of your graphics. The only reason you should use .GIF is if you’re saving an animation. PNG always keeps it clear and perfect! To save a graphic, usually every program has a “Save As…” or “Save” button. Click it and name your file, choose an extension, and click “Save” or “Okay.”

What Are Some Tips?  As I said, practice! It will make you really good at it. Also, take your time. Art is art and takes time and patience. If you rush through an art project, it will look like a couple of birds came by, sat on it, and pooped.

Photoshop isn’t the only way. You can also do a thing called GIMP for free which is like Photoshop, but with a few more features. It alsoo is better at gradients. I think you should put it up there.

5. bbfreeze♥ - February 16, 2009

I also use GIMP! :)

6. ::βrꆆ:: - February 17, 2009

BB Says:

Gimp is a graphic design program. Well, one of the many design programs, lol. You can download it for free here: http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=gimp-win&filename=gimp-2.6.4-i686-setup.exe&use_mirror=superb-west

Hahaa.. I gotiees Paint.NET. But I’m still trying to adapt to the complicatedd-ness of the programm. ;]]

Paint.NET, for me, isn’t as complicated as Photoshop. Even though Bb is younger than me, (Im in middle school.. ;pp) her brain is biggerr. Which I can understandd. ;]] But, since I play Club Volleyball, like, almost every freakingg day, I never have time to play around in Paint.NET.. ;[[ But, mee wuvehh Paint.NET!

BB Says:
Oh yeah, I’ve also heard of that! Is it good? Oh, that sucks! Maybe when the season is over you can get on it more. LOL, I’m sure your brain is much smaller than mine… JK!

Paint.NET is MicroSoft’s better version of Paint. You can make the background transparent and move things around in angels more. Like what you can do on PhotoBucket, but it’s more advance! :D

I’ve been on this interesting Tutorial Forum for Paint.net, and it’s really cool! It showed how in depth you can actually get. Some people think it’s bad and don’t like it, but I just think they haven’t learned all the different effects and things you can do.
Photobucket? Do you mean Photoshop?

11. ♪ Mâtt™ ♪ - April 15, 2009

No, he means Photobucket… It’s a file/picture uploader… And it has OKAY effects… I kinda’ like the program I use right now though… I just wish I could have something PRO. looking… Do you know of anything like top of the line graphic makers? I’ve heard of Adobe Fireworks and other Adobe products but none of them work on my computer! I messed it up once and none of them work….

I will try! I got a Bamboo pad a long time ago, and it’s time to use it! We also have photoshop. Would cs3 work?

BB Says:
You can use a tablet on anything! I use it as my computer mouse – it’s good practice. As far as I know, all versions of Photoshop are tablet compatible.

20. ⌈βrεtt⌋ - January 10, 2010

I just got GIMP a couple days ago. And it’s awesome, but it is hard to learn. Any tips for GIMP?

BB Says:
I know what you mean – Gimp is really hard to get the hang of. I can’t exactly explain the entire program to you, but I’d suggest just searching Gimp on Google and look through the tutorials they have. Good luck!
